As the muscle car would evolve from 1964-1970, both performance grew and vehicle weight increased for the 1970. The exceptional styling and ride quality of the Cougar continued with the Eliminator option which directly competed against the Ford Mach 1 Mustang. Available standard with the 300hp 351 Cleveland, the Eliminator also was available with the championship road racing Boss 302 options, or as this Grabber Blue example features the infamous 428 Cobra Jet big block of NHRA drag racing championship fame.
In 1970 there were 10 different color options for the Eliminator including the bright Grabber colors. Available with either Automatic or manual 4-speed gear boxes, they also featured standard power disk brakes, power steering, sport gauges, handling package with wide oval tires, body stripes, spoilers front and rear, blacked out grills. Whether cruising Van Nuys Blvd or Woodward Ave, or the open road, Eliminator was sure to draw the attention of other contemporary muscle car owners like Cuda, AMX, Trans Am, and SS Camaro just like the boulevard stop lights motivated the owners of these exceptional machines form Detroit.

Mopar Club - Freak Out Cruise
JBA SPEED SHOP hosted the Mopar Club of San Diego's "Freak Out Cruise" benefiting San Diego Fleet Week and Wounded Warrior Homes. The turnout was wonderful with representation from every auto brand and donations were collected. Both of the charity recipients were represented with their own booths and they helped with greeting all the attendees. The Mopar Club managed all the traffic wrangling and provided some great cars for everyone to see as they drove in. The sights and sounds of horsepower were everywhere. Social distancing and face coverings too!

Our new Tire center was a big part of the show as MeltdownTires displayed everything from slicks to Drag Radials to Mickey Thompson ProStreet 18” monsters all for our many various sport customers, including all the Falken Tire lineup including off-road and our JBA Elite Tire Center for the fleet, Cross-over and passenger car tires for JBA folks including the best Michelin Tesla Tires available, all on display. We had opportunity drawings and gave away a lot of fun items from our great vendors, including Falken, Nitto and of course STP restaurant gift certificates!
Special thanks to all our friends that helped with security and display monitoring. All the cars and friends and Team JBA members are very evident in the great event photos that follow from Don Cole. In the end several hard weeks of preparation, the show week and a full week of tear down and packing back-up of all our display marketing tools, made the holidays a challenge, but giving back to support this great event and building San Diego passion for what we live for here at JBA Speed Shop makes it all worthwhile, especially finding so many new friends, make the San Diego International Auto Show when we do it, always rewarding!
JBA Coffee & Cars - April 2021
A typical Southern California Spring day at JBA! Great cars, great friends all mixed with tire smoke, high-octane fuel fumes and the thump of big horsepower. It's a perfect way to start a Sunday.
Hot August days with cool and overcast mornings are a staple of San Diego's great Muscle Car and Hot Rod scene. Today was just like that with an incredible turnout of early hot rods and late model muscle cars on a cool and overcast early morning at the JBA Speed Shop's Coffee & Cars on the Mesa. By 8:30 am the parking lot was full and the sun was just breaking through the coastal clouds. Just in time for a few burnouts and the sound of American Muscle to start the day right. Thanks to everyone that came out to join us and celebrate Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Drag Racing, Road Racing and just driving enjoyment.

The December 2021 (#134) edition of Cars & Coffee on the Mesa opened on a crystal clear and cold morning that turned into a HOT December party by the afternoon. The parking lot filled to capacity with the famous and not so familiar of Muscle Cars, classics, late model muscle and even an electric. Burnouts, coffee, spent fuel and bakery fresh donuts fueled our morning. A beautiful day to celebrate everything high performance.
After a brief recess to recover from the burnouts, The Meltdowns set up on the stage and Bittle dogs hit the grill for a winter gathering among car folk. The music was enthusiastic and fun while the food and drinks kept everyone satisfied.

If you missed it, we will see you next month on the Second Sunday at Dawn for another great installment.
We began at 5AM with our fire ring lighting ceremony to classic rock and then the parking of 7-decades of American muscle cars began rolling in. Some great car clubs arrived early too, with such a crowd we brought in another 6 dozen donuts but even then, we ended donuts by 8:30 with a total count of 21 dozen consumed! So, based on donuts consumed, January is a solid top ten event as this was our 113th consecutive Second Sunday to do this.
With all that showed we had some amazing friends that we have not seen for a while. Enjoy the photos as we showcase them here with great car art of Don Cole again! See ya in February!

The early morning was quite with fog rolling in and low clouds until 8AM or so. Listening to Jimi Hendrix and Almond Brothers and Traffic in our small corner of the world is always somehow cool and comfortable as the big blocks and blown hot rods and cruisers roll in for their donuts and coffee. JBA ‘ own full-service tire center was hopping as was our service and dyno center.
We also kicked-off our 5th year of toy driving for this December’s planned delivery too Rady’s. Thanks and remember its ok to tell friends and family both to keep dropping off new packaged toys all month long at JBA! We also sold tickets to next Saturdays 11-4PM car Show happening at the Grossmont Theater. There are 30 of our tickets left. Go to our fb page or website if you want to attend and order your $9.00 Saturday matinee ticket or call or stop by with $9. We have security and will all be inside watching the movie after the show starts.
It was a cold and rainy night and morning that kept everyone in bed a little late today. When the day broke with a bit of clearing the friends of JBA came out for Coffee, Donuts and a bit of social-distanced camaraderie with fellow gear heads. Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate everything automotive.
Today we had another stellar turnout showing how eager everyone is to return to normalcy showing off our early hot rods and late model muscle cars or just plain cool cars. A few notables include a brand new Corvette Stingray, Ford GT and some incredible customs too! The morning evaporated some of the social gloom with a few burnouts and the sound of American Muscle to start the day off right.
Today we remembered a member of our JBA Family, Mike Hill who lost his battle against cancer, along with a round of remembrance for the many we have lost this year. Mike Hill is memorialized by the naming of our parking drive "Mike Hill Speed Way". He along with all our other loved ones will be missed.
Special Thanks to everyone that came out to join us and celebrate Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Drag Racing, Road Racing and all other forms of automotive enjoyment.
The day turned out very nice with a break in the heat. The overcast cool was perfect for warming up some rubber and making a little noise while roasting the hides.
Great collection of vehicles this morning at Coffee & Cars. Thanks for making the show folks!
Happy Mothers Day The JBA Way
