As the muscle car would evolve from 1964-1970, both performance grew and vehicle weight increased for the 1970. The exceptional styling and ride quality of the Cougar continued with the Eliminator option which directly competed against the Ford Mach 1 Mustang. Available standard with the 300hp 351 Cleveland, the Eliminator also was available with the championship road racing Boss 302 options, or as this Grabber Blue example features the infamous 428 Cobra Jet big block of NHRA drag racing championship fame.
In 1970 there were 10 different color options for the Eliminator including the bright Grabber colors. Available with either Automatic or manual 4-speed gear boxes, they also featured standard power disk brakes, power steering, sport gauges, handling package with wide oval tires, body stripes, spoilers front and rear, blacked out grills. Whether cruising Van Nuys Blvd or Woodward Ave, or the open road, Eliminator was sure to draw the attention of other contemporary muscle car owners like Cuda, AMX, Trans Am, and SS Camaro just like the boulevard stop lights motivated the owners of these exceptional machines form Detroit.
