Started playing with cars in 1961 building models, first one was a 1961 Ford Falcon, when I was 12 years old. Then in high school took auto shop in 1966 and haven't stopped playing with cars ever since. My first car was a 1960 Corvair that had no 2nd gear so it was a 1st to 3rd driving car that was a hand me down from my older sister. That car leaked oil so fast you never had to change it, only the oil filter every 6K miles. The oil slick is still on the street where I use to park it after 50 years. My first car I bought was a 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS that Susie and I dated in when we were kids, bought it for $1200 and wish I still had it. Loved that car, but my first love was always a 1965.

Arrived at JBA: June 2014, J hasn't let go of me yet. Love being part of the team here, a lot of great people to work with.

Favorite car: My 2012 Boss 302 or as Carroll Shelby says my next Shelby Mustang.

    I'm Artie
My passion for playing with cars began when I discovered slot cars. My dad bought me my first slot car and I was blown away by the fact that I was racing around a track at the age of 7.

After that experience I became fascinated by the fact that if you put enough of the right parts together whatever your putting together will move! I nailed my skates to a box and made a coaster, I found a bike frame painted it purple and scrounged up the missing pieces and had the first BMX bike before they were invented!

In high school I bought a motorcycle and rode it all over San Diego on a gas attendant budget. Now I get to play with some of the sweetest rides in SoCal at JBA Speed Shop where I get to be a kid again!

Come on, be a kid again! Join us and fuel your automotive passion today at JBA Speed Shop - Yah!

  • Ryan Doherty Ryan Doherty I have a tri power setup on my 67 Cyclone and these guys went above and beyond to get it dialed in and making more power. Everyone was a class act and I will not let anyone else turn a wrench on my car!!!
  • Randy K. Hi Everybody, I have a brand new, woohoo, 2016 Mustang GT and was referred to JBA by a friend for an exhaust system. Todd, a service advisor @ JBA, was very helpful and we decided on the Roush axle back quad tip exhaust. Want to add, Todd and I went back n forth many times on e-mail with him answering all my questions, making recommendations and giving me timely and intelligent options. During installation the rear valance needed to be removed and JBA brought in a custom auto body expert to make sure the removal & re-installation of rear valance went perfectly. (my car is brand new & they were very concerned about it looking perfect and this was explained to me in detail by shop owner what service).

The Results: The exhaust sounds fantastic. I went full bore meaning removal of both plates so all 4 pipes are singing. Deep, throaty, aggressive....exactly what a muscle car should sound like. No droning, sounds great on down shift, and its not obnoxiously loud that the neighbors will complain. Inside the car the exhaust/engine sounds powerful....deep growl at start, revving produces more growling and a very aggressive deep tone. No tinny or high pitch screaming...just a deep baritone growl that shouts DETROIT MUSCLE BABY!! Frankly, I think my exhaust sound is best I have heard. Also, much better sound than they are able to play in the Ford Pony Parts U-tube video. Aesthetically, I now have 4 pipes...2 on each side and it looks very cool and totally custom. You will be very pleased if you choose the Roush Axle back quad tipped system. Warning: This is not a DIY project at home due to the valance issue. Let the pros at JBA do it.

Cost: Very competitive. Same as on-line prices. Felt I received great value and everything explained. No surprises.

JBA Shop & Employees: Guys and gals, this is a very unique speed, tuning, and machine shop. A shop tour revealed many custom Shelby's and really cool mucle cars all getting some type of re-build and service. The place is busy with projects. This is a full service shop! I think they could build an air craft carrier with the equipment & talent on site. Was able to meet some of the staff and all were very open, friendly and service oriented. All my e-mails and calls were immediately answered. Very talented group and a lot of fun. Jay, the owner, even gave me a ride back to my office after dropping off car. Old fashion customer service with real world equipment & technology.

Thank you Todd, Jay and Team JBA !!!!

  • Joe Curran 3.55 Ford Racing Gear Install & Tune
My goal was to wake up second gear and it sure was successful. It is a completely different car now. Drivable for every day when I’m easy on it, and has hard acceleration when I want it. The combination of gears, tune, and transmission shift quality has really done a lot to make it more enjoyable. The 1-2 shift requires the traction control to be turned off. The ABS detects the tire slip in the shift and kills the timing.
Without traction control on the thing breaks the tires loose so easily! It’ll take some getting used to but I’m definitely liking the new car. Please extend my thanks to Bruce. I can tell there is another 25+ horsepower there."

    2 Days Later

"I knew it would take some time to discover the new operating characteristics. I see vastly improved throttle response, smoother transition of the cam phasers (used to be very abrupt), more usable and more linear power throughout the rev range, vastly improved shift quality and timing, and all this while maintaining drivability and the “luxury feel” when driving normally. Yet when I put my foot into it, the car is much more awake and responsive, especially the all-important second gear acceleration. It’s a completely different experience. Fuel economy is the same.

Thank you so much. I’m enjoying this car so much more."
