JBA CARLSBAD REUNION - June 1st, 2024
This past Saturday, June 1st, 2024, saw the JBA crew show up in force at the Barona Dragstrip to take part in the Carlsbad Racers Reunion & Vintage Drags. The event was open to all all pre-1976 vehicles as well as to any car that had previously run at Carlsbad Speedway.
As a key sponsor of the event, JBA had four cars and four drivers entered to run. J. Bittle, the President and Founder of JBA, had his C/Gas Mustang tearing up the 1/8th mile track- entertaining the crowds with its gobs of power, impressive wheel stands and hitting the low 6’s with his normal clockwork like efficiency. Not to be out done, Austin Bittle, JBA's General Manager, took a break from kicking ass on the Autocross Circuit to display his drag racing chops with his big block Fairlane. The 427 IP Ford rocked the crowd with great burn-outs immediately followed by run after dominating run in the low 7 20s. JBA pal and sponsored drag racer Dan (ADDLASTNAMEHERE) left his SN95 at home and took the wheel of our 1972 Chevelle- showing the world what 1000hp of Supercharged JBA built LS7 goodness is capable of- on street tires and with no previous experience driving the thing nonetheless! Perhaps the most impressive and historically significant runs of the day were reserved for a certain 1970 Camaro Z28 owned and operated by Pamela Brown. Pam's Z28, complete with its Camel Hump Heads, blue-printed rotating assembly, and JBA's impressive high-compression engine build had been a frequent contender over the years at Carlsbad Speedway. It was beyond epic seeing this black Camaro wearing its 40 plus years of patina and battle scars- tearing up the drag strip just like it did at Carlsbad all those years ago. It certainly didn't take Pam long to brush the dust off and put down some hugely impressive times-nailing a 9.378 at 80.3MPH with a quick 2.62 second 60-foot time. We have no doubt that her late husband and co-owner/operator Marc was looking down with a smile, questioning why they did not put Pam in the driver's seat
