Once known as the Oakland Roadster Show, the Grand National Roadster Show is now in its 65th year. It is the longest running indoor car show in the world! I was lucky that my father was willing to drive my brother and I up to Oakland to see a few of the early shows when I was a wee lad. Produced at the Fairplex in Pomona for the 10th consecutive year, the event features over 500 show vehicles competing for awards inside all of the Fairplex buildings. Another 400-800 vehicles join the event Saturday and Sunday for the 9th Annual Grand Daddy Drive-In. Vehicles park between buildings as part of the show. As a land speed racer, I was happy to explore the Building 9 exhibit which featured “A Century of Speed: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Bonneville Past, Present and Future”. If you look through the attached gallery, you’ll see bunch of land speed cars sprinkled through the hot rods, rat rods, lead sleds and gassers. You may also notice my preoccupation with 32-34 Ford coupes. Sorry. See the pictures for the rest of the story and don’t forget to Save the Salt!
