What is happening this weekend for fun? Poker Runs – three of them! All three are a variety of styles and timing for your enjoyment.

Definition : A poker run is an organized event where participants, in this case driving a Mustang or other means of transportation, must visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run.

There will be a Poker hand winner for the participants that make each stop with the group. Awards for the best poker hand and the worst poker hand will be awarded on Sunday at the party at JBA Speed Shop. There will also be awards for longest drive and shortest drive both time and distance will be measured for an opportunity to win. Addresses are provided upon departure with the noting of miles-out and upon return miles-in, GPS, Google maps and or a Thomas Bros. Map book are allowed.

Win one of our 1st Annual JBA Ford Festival Poker Run Trophies

This is a 5-6 hour fun cruise event departing JBA Speed Shop Saturday morning to travel up to the Cuyamaca mountain range, 65 miles north east of San Diego. The drive is an easy ride up I15 and then a challenging drive up Highland Valley Road to Ramona California. Then the caravan will move on up Highway 78 to Santa Ysabel for a stop at the World Famous Dudley’s Bakery. We will then drive further up into Wynola, CA for a no host lunch at Jeremy’s World Famous Bistro if you so choose, where they featuring really big and exquisite hamburger meals and a lot more. Then after the bakery and the burgers it’s time for World Famous Julian Apple Pies! The small mountain town is fun for site seeing and many locations where Apple Pies are made fresh and sold. The town is also full of artists and antique shops. Parking can be a little limited but spots can be found. There is also a great BBQ spot in town if you prefer it to Jeremy’s. Total trip time is estimated at 6 hours and a total distance of approximately 150 miles.

With your Ford Festival Registration you may also choose to enter any secondary event for: an entry fee of $10.00 per car for a Saturday Dash Plaque and chance for Trophy/Prize.

JBA Speed Shop, Kearny Mesa (San Diego), 8:00 a.m.

  • Registration opens at JBA at 8:00 a.m.
  • Collect the first two cards for your poker run

North on the I-15

  • First cars out at 8:30 a.m.

East on Highland Valley Road to Ramona.

  • Take Pomerado Road east (briefly) to a left on Highland Valley
  • Highland Valley ends at Julian Road (SR-67), which proceeds northeast to Ramona

Head north to Santa Ysabel on SR-67 (Julian Road)

  • Stop at Dudley’s at 9:00 a.m.: 30218 Julian Road, Santa Ysabel, CA 92070
  • 15-minute straggler time
  • Pick up the third card for your poker hand

Take SR-78 from Dudley’s to Jeremy’s in Wynola

  • Stop at Jeremy’s in Wynola at 10:00 a.m.: 4354 Highway 78, Santa Ysabel, CA 92070
  • Half-hour to chow and for stragglers to catch-up
  • Pick up your fourth card

Climb to 3500ft and Julian, CA, apple pie and ice cream

  • Enjoy lunch, desert and saunter-time in Julian before returning to JBA
  • Collect the fifth card

Head back to JBA Speed Shop, where festivities will continue

  • Reverse your uphill route, or take SR-79 south to I-8 west, then SR-163 north to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard
  • Get sixth and seventh cards to complete your poker hand
